Social Media MCP Servers Compared Tool by Tool (Tested October 2026)

I compared the official MCP servers of 25 social media tools on 16 October 2026 and ran LotsSocial's end to end. The real difference isn't tool count. It's whether your AI agent can connect accounts, upload files and read results without you opening another app. LotsSocial's 33 tools do all three across 12 networks.

Below: two tables (capabilities, then networks, sign-in, price and limits), how I tested, and a short note on each tool. Every competitor row comes from that vendor's own docs.

The comparison: what each MCP server lets your agent do

"Not stated" means the vendor's own pages don't say either way. "Not listed" means the vendor doesn't publish its tool names, so I didn't count them. Where two of a vendor's own pages disagree, both numbers are shown.

How I tested

On 16 October 2026 I connected my agent to LotsSocial's MCP server (https://api.lots.social/mcp, OAuth sign-in) and ran this against my own workspace:

  1. list_workspaces and list_connected_accounts. Every account came back with its network, brand, caption_limit and requires_media. My Premium X accounts showed 25,000 characters and the free one 280; Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest were flagged as needing media.
  2. get_platform_playbook for Bluesky. Dated guidance, with official rules kept apart from observed practice.
  3. create_media_upload, a PUT of a 1200x675 PNG, then complete_media_upload. It returned a media_id with the width, height and alt text saved.
  4. validate_social_post, twice. First a 349-character caption for Bluesky and Instagram with no image, checked as if scheduled. It returned two errors: "Caption exceeds Bluesky limit of 300 characters", and Instagram "cannot publish without an image or video". Then a 158-character caption with the image, on Bluesky alone: "This post passes every network rule."
  5. create_social_post as a draft (no scheduled_time) on one Bluesky account, then get_social_post. Type draft, the image attached, one pending Bluesky log and no network post ID.
  6. delete_social_post on that draft and delete_media on the test image. A second get_social_post returned "Post not found".
  7. get_aggregate_analytics for the last 30 days and get_post_analytics on one published post, read only. Each network reported its own numbers, and networks without data gave the reason (LinkedIn doesn't share analytics for personal profiles) instead of a zero.
  8. get_connect_link for Bluesky. It returned a one-hour link, with an instruction to give it to the person rather than open it. I didn't open it, and it expired unused.
  9. Publishing right away, on 17 October 2026. After LotsSocial added publish_now, I ran validate_social_post on a 254-character post for the LotsSocial X account, checked as type posted: valid. Then create_social_post with publish_now: true returned "Published to 1 of 1 account", status success, and the post on X. get_social_post confirmed it in the log. The post began: "Your AI agent can now publish to social media right away, not only schedule."

Nothing was scheduled or published on 16 October; the only live post is that 17 October test. The count of 33 tools is from api.lots.social/tools.json, checked again on 17 October. For the other 24 tools I read the vendors' MCP docs, tool references, pricing and rate-limit pages on the same day, counted tool names only where a vendor publishes them, and wrote "not stated" or "not listed" where they don't.

What the table shows

  • Tool count is a weak signal. Zernio exposes 496 tools behind a search tool, bundle.social 66, Buffer 20, LotsSocial 33. What matters is whether the job you want is covered end to end.
  • Few servers let the agent add an account. LotsSocial, Zernio, Post Bridge, Outstand, bundle.social, Ocoya and Ayrshare document it. Most dashboard schedulers, Buffer, Hootsuite, Mixpost and Onlypult among them, expect you to connect accounts in their app first.
  • Media upload often means "a public URL". Buffer, Ocoya and Ayrshare take links rather than files, so an image on your laptop needs hosting first.
  • Several enterprise suites keep MCP draft-only. Statusbrew and Agorapulse create drafts that a person schedules in their app. That suits approval-heavy teams; it means more clicks if you want the agent to finish the job.
  • Sign-in matters for chat apps. Ayrshare is API key only, and its docs say personal connectors in Claude Desktop, claude.ai and Claude mobile can't authenticate with it. bundle.social runs as a local server only.

Per-tool notes

LotsSocial

LotsSocial connects your social accounts to ChatGPT, Claude, Muse or any compatible AI agent to schedule and publish posts across 12 networks, handle each platform's requirements, and track how your posts perform. In my run, the agent listed accounts with each one's caption limit, uploaded a local file, caught two rule breaks before saving, saved a draft with media, read analytics with reasons for missing data, and generated a connect link, all through MCP. A day later it published a post to X right away. create_social_post and update_social_post take publish_now: true for owners, admins and managers; the agent confirms the text, media and accounts with you first, the same network checks as scheduling run, and it can't be combined with a scheduled time (bulk_create_social_posts has no publish-now). The 33 tools also cover bulk scheduling (up to 50 posts per call), brands, workspaces, cancelling scheduled posts and billing status. Reddit and Pinterest posts take their own fields (subreddit and title, board and title).

Pricing is per connected account: $2 a month from credits, or Starter $20 for 12 accounts, Pro $59 for 40 and Business $149 for 150. Posts, media storage, brands, workspaces and team members are unlimited. New accounts get 5,000 free credits, valid 90 days, no card. Setup guides for each agent are at lots.social/agents.

Buffer

A hosted server at mcp.buffer.com/mcp with 20 tools, on every plan including Free. create_post can share now or schedule; there's no upload tool, so media goes in as public URLs. MCP calls count against Buffer's API quotas. There's no tool to connect a channel. I compared the two in detail in LotsSocial vs Buffer.

Hootsuite

Four OAuth servers: publishing, inbox, listening and advocacy. The publishing server can publish, schedule, upload media and read analytics, and works with ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini. Hootsuite doesn't publish tool names or rate limits, and says to connect accounts in Hootsuite before using MCP.

Postiz

Hosted MCP on every cloud plan, 30+ destinations and image and video generation tools. Its docs count 13 tools in one place and 14 in another; posts can be drafts, scheduled or published now. Channels are connected in the Postiz app.

Publer

MCP on Business and Enterprise plans, with OAuth or an API key. It can schedule, publish and analyze; Publer doesn't publish its tool list. The API allows 100 requests per 2 minutes per user.

Metricool

27 tools on its MCP page, heavy on reading: posts per network, competitors and ad campaigns. Scheduling works, publishing now isn't stated, and the Free plan includes MCP (1 brand, 20 posts a month, no LinkedIn or X).

ContentStudio

MCP on every plan from $29 a month. Its pages describe scheduling, analytics and approvals, and the Claude integration page adds media and account connection, but no tool list is published and the pages differ on sign-in.

Zernio

A developer API where every endpoint is also an MCP tool: 496 in total, about 50 visible and the rest found through search_tools. Its agents page says the agent can start a platform's OAuth flow and hand you the link. The first two accounts are free, then $6 each for accounts 3 to 10.

Post Bridge

16 tools including request_connect_link for 9 of its 10 networks, media upload and analytics for four networks. $39 a month for 15 accounts. Its pricing FAQ says it skips approval flows.

Ayrshare

An API for products and agencies: 33 tools in its docs (27 on its AI agent page), including comments, DMs, webhooks and ads. API key only. Client account linking needs the profile plans, and the cheapest plan is $149 a month for one profile.

Outstand

28 tools, including get_auth_url to connect accounts and presigned media uploads. Billed by posts ($19 a month includes 3,000), with unlimited accounts. X, Google Business, Vimeo and Reddit need your own developer app.

bundle.social

66 tools in its docs, covering posts, comments, imports, media, analytics and account connection. It runs on your machine with an API key; a hosted server is on its roadmap. The Free plan works with MCP.

Ocoya

OAuth-only MCP scoped per brand, with AI post and campaign tools and a connection-URL tool. No analytics or upload tool is listed. From $29 a month.

Typefully

Writing-first for X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon. MCP is on the Free plan; tool names aren't published and analytics aren't in its MCP capability list.

FeedHive

26 tools plus automation triggers. Scheduling needs an explicit confirm_scheduling flag and publish-now only happens through a trigger. The REST API (and its MCP) starts on the Brand plan.

Mixpost

30 tools on Mixpost Cloud or your own server. Self-hosted Pro is $299 once; on Cloud, MCP starts on Momentum at $49 a month.

Onlypult

37 tools, including Stories, Reels and Shorts creators and eight analytics tools. MCP and API on every plan, including the trial. Accounts are connected in the dashboard.

Planable

OAuth connector on every plan, built around approval: the assistant creates drafts and nothing goes live without a teammate's approval. Analytics need the add-on.

Pallyy

17 tools on every plan including Free. It can set a post's approval status, but can't read analytics or delete posts.

Agorapulse

Beta. Creates drafts, reads analytics, the inbox and listening, and queues replies for approval. Scheduling and publishing happen in Agorapulse.

Statusbrew

Draft-only MCP: the AI can't publish or schedule, but it can approve a pending post, which then moves to Scheduled. Enterprise, or a $100 a month add-on on Premium.

Vista Social

The widest scope among the dashboard suites: posts, inbox, tasks, listening and approvals. Its MCP page says 51 tools and its help center lists 100; the pages also differ on rate limits and on which plans include MCP.

PostSyncer

46 tools on every plan, from $29 a month for 10 accounts, with OAuth or a scoped token. Approvals and account connection are REST only.

Publora

32 tools, 20 on every plan including Free and 12 for Agency accounts (client approvals and client connection links). Analytics tools cover Mastodon and Bluesky.

Taplio

LinkedIn only, with comment-finding and draft tools. It publishes only after you confirm. From $39 a month.

How to choose

  • Your agent should do the whole job, including adding accounts: pick a server that documents account connection, media upload and analytics. LotsSocial does all three across 12 networks for $2 an account.
  • You want MCP on a free plan: Buffer, Metricool, Typefully, Pallyy, Publora and bundle.social have one, each with post or channel caps.
  • Your team approves every post: Planable, Statusbrew and Vista Social are built around approval.
  • You're building a product: Zernio, Ayrshare, Outstand and bundle.social are APIs first.

Common questions

What is a social media MCP server?

It's a server your AI agent connects to so it can call a social tool's functions: list accounts, upload media, create or schedule posts and read results. You add one URL to ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or another client and sign in.

Which social media MCP server has the most tools?

Zernio, with 496 tools, about 50 of them visible by default and the rest found through a search tool. bundle.social documents 66 and Onlypult 37. More tools doesn't mean more coverage: check whether the server can connect accounts, upload files and read analytics.

Which MCP servers let my AI agent connect social accounts?

LotsSocial (all 12 networks), Zernio, Post Bridge (9 networks), Outstand, bundle.social and Ocoya document it, and Ayrshare does for client profiles on its profile plans. Buffer, Hootsuite, Postiz, Mixpost and Onlypult expect you to connect accounts in their app.

Is there a free social media MCP server?

Buffer, Metricool, Typefully, Pallyy, Publora and bundle.social include MCP on a free plan with post or channel limits. LotsSocial gives 5,000 free credits, valid 90 days, no card, which covers 2 accounts for about a month.

Do social media MCP servers work in ChatGPT and Claude?

Most do, through OAuth sign-in. Servers that only take an API key, such as Ayrshare's, don't work as personal connectors in Claude Desktop, claude.ai or Claude mobile, according to Ayrshare's docs. bundle.social's runs locally, so it suits Claude Code or Cursor rather than the chat apps.

Can an AI agent publish without my approval?

It depends on the server. On LotsSocial, drafts never publish on their own; the agent can schedule a post, or publish it right away when you ask, after confirming the text, media and accounts with you. Statusbrew and Agorapulse only create drafts, Planable waits for a teammate's approval, and Taplio publishes only after you confirm. Buffer, Zernio and others can publish immediately when asked.
