The Best Social Media APIs for Developers (2026)

The best social media API depends on what you're building. If you want your scripts and your AI agent to post to your own or your clients' accounts on 12 networks, with one connect link and no developer apps to register, use LotsSocial. If you're embedding social posting into a SaaS product for thousands of end users, look at Ayrshare, Zernio or bundle.social; for usage-based billing by post volume, Outstand.

I compared nine unified social media APIs on what a developer actually has to decide: which networks they cover, how you pay, how your users connect their accounts, whether there's an MCP server for AI agents, and which SDKs ship. Everything below was checked against each vendor's own pages on 11 October 2026.

Quick picks

  • You want one API and one MCP server for your own accounts or a few clients, used from scripts and from Claude Code, Cursor or ChatGPT: LotsSocial.
  • You're embedding social posting in a SaaS product, under your brand: Ayrshare, Zernio or bundle.social.
  • You want to pay by post volume, not by account: Outstand or bundle.social.
  • You post a lot of short video, often from n8n or Make: Upload-Post.
  • You want open source you can self-host: Postiz.
  • You want a simple scheduler with an API and a CLI for your own accounts: Post Bridge.
  • Your team already runs Buffer: the Buffer API.

Network counts are each vendor's own figure. "14+", "16+" and "30+" are how Ayrshare, Zernio and Postiz describe themselves.

What to check before you pick a social media API

  1. Who connects the accounts. If it's you, a link you open is enough. If it's your customers, you need a connect page or OAuth URL you can put in your product, and you'll want to know whose name appears on the consent screen.
  2. Whether you need your own developer apps. Some APIs lend you their approved apps on every network. Others ask you to register your own on some networks, which means app review on X, Reddit or Google before you ship.
  3. What you're billed on. Per connected account, per profile (one customer with many networks), per post, or per channel. Pick the one that grows with your real usage.
  4. Extra charges per network. X moved its API to pay-per-use, and some vendors pass that cost on per post.
  5. Agent access. If you or your users work in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Claude Code, an MCP server with OAuth means no API key in a config file.

1. LotsSocial

Best for: developers who want their scripts and their AI agent to run the same social accounts, for themselves or a handful of clients, without registering developer apps anywhere.

LotsSocial gives you two ways in to the same accounts, posts and media. The MCP server at https://api.lots.social/mcp signs in with OAuth 2.1 in your browser, so Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor or Codex connect without a key. The REST API at https://api.lots.social takes an API key in an Authorization: Bearer or X-API-Key header, and its reference and OpenAPI 3.0 spec are generated from the same tool registry as the MCP server, so the two can't drift apart. Point your code generator at the spec, or give your coding agent https://api.lots.social/docs.md.

Connecting accounts is one call. POST /api/v1/lotssocial/connect-link returns a link that works for an hour, can connect several accounts, and covers all 12 networks: LinkedIn (profile and Page), Instagram, X, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Reddit and Google Business. You approve on the network's own page. There are no developer apps to register on any network. For clients, the dashboard makes brand-scoped connect links they can open without a LotsSocial account.

The API has 29 endpoints: accounts, brands and workspaces, media uploads (from a URL, or your own files through an upload URL), single and bulk posts (up to 50 at once with per-account captions), drafts, scheduling, cancelling, post and account analytics, and billing. Posts are validated before they're saved: caption limits per account (280 on free X, 25,000 on Premium), required media for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest, and media formats. Drafts never publish. The default rate limit is 100 requests a minute per key, with lower limits on writes, and every response carries X-RateLimit-* headers.

Pricing is per connected account. Plans: Starter is 12 accounts for $20 a month, Pro is 40 for $59, Business is 150 for $149, and extra accounts are at your plan's rate. Or pay as you go at $2 per connected account per month from credits, with no subscription. Posts, media storage, brands, workspaces and team members are unlimited, on all 12 networks, X included. New accounts get 5,000 free credits, valid 90 days, no card.

If you're building a product where thousands of your own users connect accounts under your brand, the multi-tenant APIs below are built for that.

2. Ayrshare

Best for: SaaS platforms and agencies embedding social posting for many customers.

Ayrshare is an API-first platform for products, covering Facebook, X, Bluesky, Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit, Telegram, TikTok, Google Business Profile, Threads, Pinterest, Snapchat, YouTube and WhatsApp (beta). On its multi-user plans, your customers connect their accounts through a white-labeled connect page that you open with a JWT URL; they never log in to Ayrshare. It has official Node.js, Python and Flutter packages, and an MCP server at https://api.ayrshare.com/mcp that takes an API key header.

Billing is per profile, where a profile is one customer, brand or location with any number of networks. Premium is $149 a month for 1 profile, Launch is $299 for up to 10 profiles (with a 28-day free trial) and Business is $599 for 30, with volume pricing beyond that. Every plan includes unlimited posts and API calls.

3. Zernio (formerly Late)

Best for: developers who want the widest SDK choice and per-account pricing.

Late renamed itself Zernio, and getlate.dev now redirects to zernio.com. It covers the main networks plus Telegram, Snapchat, Discord, Slack and WhatsApp, along with ads, messaging and blog APIs. It ships eight SDKs (Node, Python, Go, Ruby, Java, PHP, .NET and Rust), a CLI, and a hosted MCP server that signs in with OAuth or an API key. To connect a user's account, GET /v1/connect/{platform} returns an OAuth URL; you create one profile per user and can pass a redirect_url back to your app.

Pricing is per connected account: the first two are free with no card, then $6 each for accounts 3 to 10, $3 each for 11 to 100 and $1 each beyond. X API usage is passed through at X's own rates, and its quickstart says connecting X needs a card on file. Messaging and ads are metered separately.

4. bundle.social

Best for: multi-tenant products that want unlimited accounts and a monthly post pool.

bundle.social covers 15 platforms, including Discord, Slack, Mastodon and Snapchat, and bills per organization rather than per account. Its free plan includes API access for 3 accounts and 20 posts a month; Pro is $100 a month for 10,000 posts with unlimited accounts and a 14-day trial, and Business is $400 for 100,000 posts. For connecting accounts, you can create a hosted portal link that handles OAuth and page pickers, or build your own flow. It has a TypeScript SDK, a CLI and an MCP server you run from npm with your API key, and it's hosted in the EU.

X is billed separately from a prepaid balance: $0.015 per post, or $0.20 for a post with a link.

5. Outstand

Best for: developers who want usage-based pricing and unlimited connected accounts.

Outstand covers 12 networks, including Vimeo. Pay as you go is $19 a month with 3,000 posts included, then $0.007 per post up to 10,000 and $0.005 beyond; Business is $129 a month for 50,000 posts and permits reselling. Connected accounts are unlimited on both. Its MCP server at https://mcp.outstand.so/mcp has 28 tools and signs in with OAuth or your API key.

Outstand lends you its own apps on 8 networks. For X, Google Business Profile, Vimeo and Reddit you register your own developer app first and bring the credentials, which its own page describes as hours to days of platform paperwork. You can also bring your own apps on other networks to put your brand on the consent screen.

6. Upload-Post

Best for: video-heavy posting from automation tools like n8n, Make and Zapier.

Upload-Post says it reaches 22 platforms, from TikTok, Instagram and YouTube to Dev.to, WordPress and Telegram, and converts videos and photos to each platform's specs. It has an official n8n node, upload-post packages for Python and Node.js, and a hosted open-source MCP server with 50 tools. Billing is per profile, where a profile is one person or client with one account per platform. The free plan gives 10 uploads a month and 2 profiles with no card; Basic is $192 a year for 5 profiles with unlimited uploads, and white-label integration starts on Professional. Links in X posts cost $19 a month extra.

7. Postiz

Best for: open source you can self-host, and the longest network list.

Postiz is open source with a hosted cloud, and says it covers 30+ networks, including Discord, Slack, Telegram and Mastodon. Every plan includes its MCP server, CLI, public API and webhooks. The public API takes an API key, or OAuth2 tokens if you're building an app for other Postiz users, and GET /public/v1/social/{integration} returns an OAuth URL to connect a channel. It has an official Node.js SDK and an n8n node. The create-post endpoint is limited to 90 requests an hour (100 on the cloud), so batch posts into one request. Plans start at $29 a month for 5 channels, with a 7-day free trial.

8. Post Bridge

Best for: your own accounts, a simple scheduler, and a command-line tool.

Post Bridge is a scheduler for 10 networks whose API, MCP server and CLI are included on every current plan, and the API needs an active subscription. The MCP server signs in with OAuth and has 16 tools. POST /v1/social-accounts/connect-link (or the request_connect_link tool) returns a link for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Threads, Pinterest and Bluesky, which you can tag with your own reference to connect client accounts. Every account counts against the plan's account cap. Marketer is $39 a month for 15 accounts and Operator is $99 for 99 accounts, both with a 7-day free trial. I compared it with LotsSocial in detail in LotsSocial vs Post Bridge.

9. Buffer API

Best for: teams already on Buffer who want to automate it.

Buffer's API is GraphQL at https://api.buffer.com, with a Bearer API key from your settings, and it's included on every plan, including the free one (3 channels, 1 API key). It covers 11 platforms. Your accounts are connected in Buffer itself; if you build an app for other people, they connect their Buffer account to your app through an OAuth app client. Rate limits depend on your Buffer plan, over 15-minute, 24-hour and 30-day windows. Buffer also has an MCP connection for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Raycast and Perplexity.

What about the native network APIs?

You can go direct to Meta, LinkedIn, X, TikTok and the rest, and you'll need to if your product depends on a feature only one network exposes. The cost is one app review, token flow and set of rules per network, and they change. Instagram alone limits API publishing to professional accounts, accepts JPEG only, and caps posts per 24 hours, which I covered in Instagram API publishing limits and requirements. A unified API carries that work for you.

How to choose

  • Your own accounts or a few clients, from code and from an AI agent: LotsSocial. One connect link covers 12 networks, the MCP server and REST API share one registry, and you pay per connected account with unlimited posts.
  • Thousands of end users connecting under your brand: Ayrshare (per profile), Zernio (per account, eight SDKs) or bundle.social (per organization, post pools).
  • Billing by post volume with unlimited accounts: Outstand or bundle.social.
  • Video and no-code automation: Upload-Post.
  • Self-hosting: Postiz.

If you mostly want the agent side, I compared ten schedulers by how their MCP servers sign in and connect accounts in the best social media schedulers with MCP support. Weighing Zernio specifically? See Zernio alternatives.

New accounts get 5,000 free credits, valid 90 days, no card. See pricing or the API page.

Common questions

What is the best social media API for developers?

It depends on who connects the accounts. For your own accounts or a few clients, used from code and from an AI agent, LotsSocial covers 12 networks with one connect link and no developer apps to register. For a SaaS product where many end users connect under your brand, Ayrshare, Zernio and bundle.social are built for multi-tenant use.

Is there a free social media posting API?

Several have a free start. LotsSocial gives 5,000 free credits, valid 90 days, no card. Zernio's first two connected accounts are free. bundle.social's free plan includes API access for 3 accounts and 20 posts a month, Upload-Post's free plan gives 10 uploads a month, and Buffer's free plan includes API access for 3 channels.

Which social media APIs have an MCP server?

All nine in this list. LotsSocial, Zernio, Outstand and Post Bridge offer OAuth sign-in for theirs; Ayrshare uses an API key header, and bundle.social's runs from an npm package with your API key.

Do I need my own developer app for each social network?

Not with most unified APIs. LotsSocial, Zernio and bundle.social connect accounts through their own approved apps. Outstand needs your own app for X, Google Business Profile, Vimeo and Reddit, and lets you bring your own apps on other networks to show your brand on the consent screen. Self-hosted Postiz needs your own developer apps on each network.

Do social media APIs charge extra for X?

Some do. Zernio passes X API costs through at X's rates, and bundle.social bills X per post from a prepaid balance. LotsSocial's price is per connected account on all 12 networks, with unlimited posts.
