Hootsuite Alternatives for Small Teams and Agencies (2026)

If you run social for a small team and Hootsuite's per-user pricing is the sticking point, the fit I'd look at first is LotsSocial: you pay per connected account, and team members, brands, workspaces, posts and media storage are all unlimited. Starter is $20 a month for 12 accounts, and your own AI assistant (ChatGPT, Claude or any MCP-compatible agent) can connect accounts, validate, schedule and publish, while the dashboard does the whole job too. Below: where LotsSocial fits, what Hootsuite charges today, and six other tools worth a look.

Checked on 2 November 2026 against each vendor's own pricing page. Prices are in USD.

Why small teams switch from Hootsuite's pricing model

Hootsuite sells seats. Its plans page lists Standard, Professional and Advanced, with Standard capped at 10 social accounts and the higher plans unlimited, and says you buy as many user seats as you need. So the bill grows with every person who touches the calendar.

LotsSocial counts connected accounts and nothing else. A freelancer, a three-person team and a ten-person team with the same 12 accounts pay the same $20 a month.

Where LotsSocial fits small teams

Your assistant does the whole job. Point ChatGPT, Claude, Codex or another MCP-compatible agent at https://api.lots.social/mcp. It can send you a link to connect accounts, check a post against each network's rules before anything is saved, schedule it or publish it now, and read back results and follower counts. If a network fails, you get an instant email and can retry that one network. The dashboard has a composer with per-network captions and live rule checks, a calendar, bulk scheduling, a media library, analytics and team roles, so nothing is missing if you would rather click.

One price you can predict. Plans are Starter $20 a month for 12 accounts, Pro $59 for 40 and Business $149 for 150. With no plan, it is $2 per connected account a month. Extra accounts beyond a plan cost your plan's rate. New accounts get free credits when they sign up, no card.

Unlimited everything except accounts. Posts, media storage, brands, workspaces and team members are unlimited on every plan. Adding a teammate, a client brand or a hundred more scheduled posts does not change the price.

12 networks, platform-aware. One post can carry a different caption per network, and LotsSocial applies each network's formatting and limits so problems show up in the check before anything is scheduled.

If your team lives in a unified inbox or social listening, Hootsuite is broader on those jobs and lists them on its plans page. If your week is mostly planning, scheduling, publishing and reporting, the per-account model fits a small team better.

Short notes on each:

  • Buffer keeps the model simple: pay for the channels you use. Its free plan is a fair starting point for one person. Compare it with LotsSocial in Buffer Alternatives for Founders and Small Teams.
  • Publer also prices per account and puts API and MCP on its Business plan.
  • Metricool counts brands, where one brand can hold a profile on each network, which suits a business with one presence per network.
  • Vista Social bundles more users and profiles per plan, at a higher monthly price.
  • Later is built around visual planning, with a "social set" holding one profile per network.
  • Agorapulse is seat-priced like Hootsuite and leans on the inbox.

How to move a small team off Hootsuite

  1. Count your accounts. Every Facebook page, Instagram account, LinkedIn page and so on counts as one. Starter covers 12, Pro 40.
  2. Sign up and connect accounts. Ask your assistant for a connect link, or use the dashboard. You authorize each network in your own browser.
  3. Connect your assistant. Add https://api.lots.social/mcp as a connector, or tell your agent: "Read https://lots.social/skill.md and help me connect LotsSocial so you can manage my social media."
  4. Invite your team. Team members are unlimited with roles, so everyone who posts can be in.
  5. Schedule next week from LotsSocial. Validate each post, schedule it, and check the post logs after it goes out.
  6. Cancel the seats you no longer need once your queue is running.

If you run an agency

Agencies get their own tools here. Client connect links let a client authorize their own accounts without a LotsSocial login, and client approval links let a client approve or reject posts before they go out; your assistant can ask for approval but never answers for the client. Brands and workspaces are unlimited, so each client gets a separate space at no extra charge. The full flow is in Social Media Management for Agencies, and plan details are in LotsSocial Pricing Explained.
