The closest Buffer alternatives for founders and small teams are LotsSocial, if you want your AI agent to connect and run your accounts, Publer and SocialPilot for low prices per account, Metricool for analytics, and Postiz for the longest network list. I checked each one on its own pages on 28 October 2026.
Buffer is a solid scheduler: a free plan for 3 channels, a community inbox, and an MCP server on every plan. What separates the alternatives is what 5 or 12 accounts cost, how many people can use the plan, and whether your agent can work in it. People look past Buffer for three reasons I can see on its pricing page: it charges per channel, Free and Essentials include one user, and approvals and access levels sit on the Team plan at a higher rate per channel.

Monthly billing at list prices, checked on 28 October 2026, except Later (shown as billed yearly) and Hootsuite (per user, billed annually). LotsSocial's $10 is $2 per connected account on pay as you go. Metricool counts brands, and a brand holds one account per network. Publer's Professional and Business totals come from its account selector at 5 and 12 accounts.
Free plans cover up to 3 accounts on Buffer and Publer, 1 brand on Metricool and 1 social set on Pallyy.
1. LotsSocial
Fits: founders, marketers and social managers who already work in ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI or Muse and want that agent to run their social accounts, alone or with a team.
LotsSocial connects your social accounts to ChatGPT, Claude, Muse or any compatible AI agent to schedule and publish posts across 12 networks, handle each platform's requirements, and track how your posts perform. You add one URL, https://api.lots.social/mcp, and sign in through your browser.
- Your agent connects the accounts. Ask it to add LinkedIn and it gives you a secure link. You approve on LinkedIn's own page and the agent confirms the account. The link covers all 12 networks, including Mastodon, Reddit and Google Business. More in how to connect your social accounts to your AI agent.
- Draft, schedule or publish now. Your agent saves drafts, schedules for a time, or publishes right away after you confirm the text and accounts. A week of posts goes in with one bulk call of up to 50. Every post is checked against each network's rules first: caption and title limits, required media, size, format and video length.
- Reddit and Pinterest too. Your agent sets the subreddit for Reddit, or the board and title for Pinterest, on each post.
- Follower counts and results. Your agent reads follower counts with 7-day and 30-day change, post analytics and a brand's top posts, where each network shares them.
- Pricing by connected account. Five accounts are $10 a month on pay as you go. Starter covers 12 accounts for $20, Pro covers 40 for $59 and Business covers 150 for $149, with two months free yearly. Posts, media storage, brands, workspaces and team members are unlimited on every option, and Pro and Business include LotsNotes Pro. The full breakdown is in LotsSocial pricing explained.
- A full dashboard too. Composer, calendar, bulk scheduling, media library, analytics, brands and team access are all in the app. Your agent for speed, the dashboard for control.
New accounts get free credits when they sign up, no card, enough to run 2 accounts for about a month. See pricing.
Choose it if you want your agent to handle the whole job, including adding accounts, you have a team or a handful of brands, and you'd rather pay for accounts than for seats or posts. The head-to-head is in LotsSocial vs Buffer.
2. Publer
Fits: solo marketers and small teams who want a low price per account and a deep feature list.
Publer's pricing page lists a Free plan with 3 accounts (no X) and 10 scheduled posts per account. On monthly billing, Professional comes to $20 for 5 accounts and $48 for 12. Business adds analytics, posting-time suggestions, competitor analysis and recycling, at $35 for 5 accounts and $84 for 12. Its features list also names bulk scheduling of up to 500 posts from a CSV, link in bio, RSS automation, a browser extension and mobile apps. Its MCP server and API are on Business and Enterprise, with OAuth or an API key. More in LotsSocial vs Publer.
3. Metricool
Fits: marketers who want analytics, reports and competitor tracking next to scheduling.
Metricool prices by brand, and a brand holds your networks. The Free plan covers 1 brand with 20 scheduled posts a month, without LinkedIn or X. Starter is $25 a month for up to 5 brands and adds unlimited publishing, a LinkedIn connection, access to its X add-on and PDF and PPT reports. Advanced is $67 for up to 15 brands and adds team and client management, roles, a post approval system and its API. Its MCP server works on every plan, Free included, with OAuth or a token, and covers brands, scheduling and analytics for the networks you've connected.
4. SocialPilot
Fits: small teams that want accounts, seats and approvals in one plan.
SocialPilot's Essentials plan is $20 a month for 5 accounts and 1 user. Standard is $40 for 10 accounts and 3 users, with bulk scheduling and a social inbox, and extra accounts are $4 each, which puts 12 accounts at $48. Premium is $100 for 20 accounts and 6 users, with client approval and white-label reports. Its MCP server lets you sign in from Claude or ChatGPT, and your agent can create, schedule and review posts across your accounts, saving them as drafts when review is needed.
5. RecurPost
Fits: people who want evergreen recycling, so good posts keep going out on a schedule.
RecurPost's Starter is $9 a month for 2 accounts, Personal is $25 for 5 accounts and 1 user, and Agency is $79 for 20 accounts and 3 users, with extra accounts at $4. Its features include evergreen content libraries that recycle posts, bulk scheduling and Zapier automation. Every plan has a 14-day trial with no card.
6. Later
Fits: brands that plan their feed visually and want link in bio and Instagram scheduling built in.
Later sells social sets, each holding one profile from each of its supported networks. Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly for 1 set (up to 8 profiles) and 1 user. Growth is $37.50 billed yearly for 2 sets and 2 users, and adds collaboration, approvals and a social inbox. It has a 14-day trial.
7. Hootsuite
Fits: larger teams that want inbox, listening and publishing together.
Hootsuite is priced per user: Standard starts at $99 a month for up to 10 accounts, Professional at $199 for unlimited accounts, and Advanced at $399 adds approvals. Its pricing page notes prices are billed annually per user. Hootsuite runs four MCP servers, for publishing, inbox, listening and advocacy, with ChatGPT and Claude connectors. Trials run 14 days with no card.
8. Postiz
Fits: the longest network list, or a scheduler you can run yourself.
Postiz's plans are $29 for 5 channels, $39 for 10 with unlimited team members, $49 for 30 and $99 for 100, with every plan including its MCP server, CLI and API. Its MCP tools list your connected channels and schedule, draft or publish posts on them, and you add the channels in the Postiz app. Postiz also publishes a self-hosted edition on GitHub under AGPL-3.0, which you install and maintain yourself. More in LotsSocial vs Postiz.
If you run your own social as a business owner
You don't need a seat plan to post for one business. Pay as you go is $2 per connected account per month, charged daily for the accounts you hold, so a business on 4 networks pays about $8 a month and nothing for posts, storage or a teammate you add later. Your agent writes and schedules, drafts never publish on their own, and you can check every post in the dashboard's calendar. Buffer's Free plan, Publer's Free plan and Metricool's Free plan cost nothing at all for up to 3 accounts or 1 brand. LotsSocial fits when you outgrow that and want your agent to do the posting. Pick your agent's guide.
If you run client accounts for an agency
Agencies get their own tools in LotsSocial, and none of them need a seat per client:
- Client connect links. Your agent creates a link for a client, who connects their own accounts without a LotsSocial login. It lasts up to 7 days, its URL is shown once, and you can list or revoke links later.
- Client approval by link. Save posts with approval requested and send your client one link. They approve or reject each post, with an optional comment, and no LotsSocial login. A post waiting for approval or rejected never publishes, and your agent can ask for approval but never approves for the client.
- Brands and workspaces. Both are unlimited, and so are team members, so a bigger team doesn't change the bill. Business covers 150 accounts for $149 a month. See how agencies let clients connect their own accounts.
Other tools built around clients, checked on 28 October 2026: Pallyy charges per client, with each client as one social set holding up to 11 accounts. Its Pro plan is $25 a month for 1 set with client and team approvals, Agency is $99 for 10 sets and 3 users, extra sets are $10 each, and its MCP server is on every plan, Free included. SocialPilot's Premium ($100 for 20 accounts and 6 users) has client approval and white-label reports, RecurPost's Agency plan ($79 for 20 accounts) has client onboarding and white-label analytics, and Metricool's Advanced plan has client management and approvals.

Moving from Buffer to LotsSocial with your agent
You can keep Buffer connected while you move. Add LotsSocial to your agent (setup guides for each agent), or give it this and let it set itself up:
Read https://lots.social/skill.md and help me connect LotsSocial for you.
Then, with both connected, ask:
List my channels in Buffer and give me a LotsSocial connect link for the same networks. When I've approved them, list my connected LotsSocial accounts. Then read my scheduled Buffer posts for the next two weeks, check each one with validate_social_post, and save them as LotsSocial drafts on the matching accounts with the same text and times. Show me the list before you schedule anything.
Your agent uses Buffer's list_channels and list_posts, then LotsSocial's get_connect_link, list_connected_accounts, validate_social_post and create_social_post. Once you've checked the drafts, ask it to schedule them and remove the old ones from your Buffer queue.

Several do. LotsSocial, Metricool, Postiz and Pallyy include their MCP server on every plan, Publer has it on Business, SocialPilot offers one you sign in to from Claude or ChatGPT, and Hootsuite runs four MCP servers with ChatGPT and Claude connectors. Buffer's MCP server is on every plan too. What differs is the setup: with LotsSocial your agent also connects the accounts, while with Buffer and Postiz you add channels in their apps first.
Which Buffer alternative suits a small team?
It depends on seats and approvals. LotsSocial includes unlimited team members on every plan. SocialPilot Standard has 3 users for $40 a month, Postiz includes unlimited members from its $39 Team plan, and Buffer's unlimited members start on Team at $12 per channel for the first 10. Hootsuite charges per user.
Which Buffer alternative suits agencies?

If you want per-client pricing, Pallyy charges per client, and SocialPilot Premium, RecurPost Agency and Metricool Advanced add white-label reports or client management.
Can I move my scheduled Buffer posts to LotsSocial?
Yes, through your agent. Connect both, ask it to read your scheduled Buffer posts, check each with validate_social_post and save them as LotsSocial drafts. You review the drafts before anything is scheduled. The full prompt is above.
